Sarah brings major heritage funding to Tamworth

Sarah attending the heritage meeting in Tamworth Castle.

Today, Sarah has brought major funders to Tamworth to unlock investment in Tamworth’s Heritage and Town Centre. Following her successful campaign for more funding for Tamworth Castle, which saw a £1.7 million investment from the Arts Council, she is working to secure even more money for Tamworth Heritage by inviting funders to see the potential in local assets such as the Old Town Hall, and further investment in the Castle.

Sarah brought together the Leader of the Council, Cllr Carol Dean and the Chief Executive Officer of Tamworth Brough Council with the Arts Council, The Architectural Heritage Fund, Historic England and The Heritage Lottery Fund in the Great Hall of Tamworth Castle.

Sarah then showed them local heritage gems including the former Co-Op headquarters, which is being refurbished into the new Business Development Centre by Tamworth Borough Council and the Town Hall.

Sarah said:

Following the recent success with Tamworth Castle I will continue to work with as many partners as possible including Arts Council, Architectural Heritage Fund, Historic England and The Heritage Fund to protect and promote our unique heritage here in Tamworth.

Preserving heritage sites is not just about protecting historic buildings, but bringing communities together and benefitting the local economy, wellbeing, and community cohesion.

"Using heritage as a tool for regeneration is a must for places like Tamworth, where we already boast a good tourism offer, but still possess much untapped potential.”

Since her election as MP, Sarah has been campaigning hard to protect Heritage across Tamworth including securing the castle on the Heritage At Risk Register, receiving the Prime Minster's backing for Tamworth Castle in Parliament on 22nd January during PMQs, and leading the campaign that secured £1.7 million for Tamworth Castle from the Arts Council.
